THIS IS HOW WE EXPERIENCED THE MADRID DESIGN FESTIVAL 2023 FROM OUR SHOWROOM

Screening of the documentary about the project Desenredando la Merina (“Untangling the Merino”)

On Friday 17th February we presented the project “Desenredando la Merina”(“Untangling the Merino”), promoted by GAN together with Ras de Terra last September 2022 in the plain of La AldeaTudal (Villanueva de la Vera, Cáceres), where the centre of creation is located. We did this with the premiere of the video-documentary about sessions dedicated to training and art, during which 12 women came together with a goal in common: to give back to the Spanish nomadic merino wool, one of the most appreciated natural fibres, for its prestige and popularity.

Thanks to this screening, and the good fortune of the continued presence of those who promote the initiative, we contribute to the mission of making the extraordinary potential of merino wool more visible, along with its enormous social and environmental benefits.

Exhibition from the winners of the 15th Gandiablasco International Outdoor Furniture Design Awards

Finally, in our showroom in Madrid we are exhibiting the winning designs of the fifteenth edition of the Gandiablasco International Outdoor Furniture Design Awards, through which we challenged emerging creatives to design an outdoor office with recyclable and sustainable materials.

They are Midsommar by Estudio NMASA Design, which won first prize, Humpys by Eduardo Mora Castedo (second place), and Eclipse by María Pía Palacio, Mariana Paccieri and Lucia Rush (special mention). The judges for the awards —José A. Gandía-Blasco Canales, president and creative of Gandia Blasco S.A.; Álvaro Matías, CEO of ALMADÁS and director of Madrid Design Festival; Marta Alonso and Imanol Calderón, architects and founding designers of Mayice Studio; Marisa Santamaría, researcher, teacher and disseminator of global design trends; and Mariví Calvo and Sandro Tothill, co-founders of LZF (National Design Award 2020) – selected the winning projects by focusing on criteria such as functionality, innovation and renewability.

In addition, the Madrid Design Festival 2023 is the perfect opportunity to unveil the new collections from our brands, in the capital: three ways of understanding spaces expressed together with internationally acclaimed figures in the sector and brought to life in furniture, accessories and rugs produced in line with values such as the culture of design, the appreciation of craftsmanship, the commitment to innovation, and environmental responsibility.

So, for the first time in our own space in Madrid, GANDIABLASCO presents MASS by Todd Bracher, ISLABLANCA by José A. Gandía-Blasco, and R24 by Paula Valentini; GAN presents the collections GOZ designed by Kengo Kuma, PLASTIC RIVERS by Álvaro Catalán de Ocón, REVERSIBLE by Charlotte Lancelot, y THE CROCHET COLLECTION by Clara von Zweigbergk; and Diabla unveils EASY by Rocío Gambín, PLIER by OiKo Design, and TUBA by Samuel Wilkinson.

With the satisfaction of having shared, learned and contributed to the reflection on how we will live in this world in the future, we would like to thank everyone who visited us during this festival in collaboration with the world of design.
