Contemporary craftsmanship and design: Bringing GANDIABLASCO’s outdoor furniture collections to GAN’s indoor spaces
Architectural spaces that break down the barriers between indoors and outdoors, so characteristic of modern architecture, have prompted a new way of designing with more open and connected approaches, with open views that blend into each other. This fluidity and hybridisation between interior and exterior spaces has always been present in both Mediterranean culture and architecture, acquiring another dimension after being revisited by the modern movement.
Since the nineties, our products have been inspired by this type of architecture, which shares many concepts with the Mediterranean lifestyle, where white houses blur the boundaries between inside and outside. This way of living focuses on the connection with the outdoors, spending almost the whole day in intermediate spaces, such as porches and terraces.

However, we were still in transition, without realising it. Although conceptually, structurally, and materially, we have evolved towards more sophisticated spatial concepts without transitions, our furnishings have continued to maintain a separation. Interior and exterior realms have continued to have their own identities through furniture, lighting, and accessories. The metamorphosis was not fully complete. Until now.
To generate a real sense of continuity, where interiors and exteriors are part of the same aesthetic approach, outdoor equipment must participate through its design in this new trend of spaces without distinct design choices. This is the direction towards which our new products are already heading, ready to bring the transition to an end.

OUTDOORS IS THE NEW INDOORS
In this new context, at Gandía Blasco Group, we are revisiting ourselves, reconnecting with our origins as a company specialising in textile products, and encouraging all the pieces of the brands that make up the Group to evolve towards more innovative designs. This forces an expansion of their aesthetics and versatility, aiming to propose new ways of relating to each other and designing interior and exterior spaces.

Inspiration from the modern movement
Some of our new collections have already been conceived with these criteria in mind and can be used both outdoors and indoors. The ONDE collection, designed by Luca Nichetto, seems to have been designed directly for an interior space, with its strong inspiration from the aesthetics of the 1950s modern movement. It is a sophisticated proposal, perfect for undefined spaces that are neither strictly indoor nor outdoor.

The ONSEN collection, designed by Francesco Meda & David Quincoces, also nods to modern furniture with its stainless steel tube structures. It relates to the warmth typically associated with indoor furniture through its leather-like straps, which are actually made of durable vinyl material.
Upholstered outdoor furniture
The upholstered volumes of the ERNO and MASS collections are technically developed for outdoor use but have warm textures and designs that allow them to fit in both environments.
The ERNO modules, designed by Alejandra Gandía-Blasco Lloret, stand out for their intriguing aesthetic, somewhere between stony and inflatable. The MASS collection, designed by Todd Bracher, has a more organic and sinuous design.

OUTDOORS IS THE NEW INDOORS
This new, more flexible mentality in the conception of outdoor, indoor, and intermediate environments has opened the door to a greater willingness to mix and match different Gandía Blasco Group products. These four collections dialogue perfectly with designs in other styles, such as the informal GRAPY lounge chair, by Kensaku Oshiro, the SAIL beanbag poufs, designed by Héctor Serrano, the ethereal ARAM steel wire tables and seats, designed by Nendo, or the artistic IRIS side and coffee tables, designed by Alejandra Gandía-Blasco Lloret.
