Design, craftsmanship and innovation, the Gandia Blasco Group’s awards in 2022
December 14, 2022 | Gandia Blasco Group /
We want to share with you the joy that we are experiencing at Casa Gandia Blasco this end of the year. The new designs of the brands that make up our group have been recognized around the world, winning all kinds of international awards and recognitions vindicating the company’s taste for a job well done and contemporary style maintaining respect for traditional craftsmanship.
The 60th edition of the Salone del Mobile in Milan was the setting where we presented the new collections of GANDIABLASCO, GAN and DIABLA. The stand designed by the architecture master Kengo Kuma was the protagonist, recognized with the Iconic Awards of the German Design Council, in the categories of “ARCHITECTURE – Innovative Material” and “ARCHITECTURE – Event/Exhibition”.
And as for the products presented this season, on which all hopes were pinned after the last two years marked in all aspects by the pandemic, the Archiproducts Design Awards have awarded in this edition one of each of our brands, for its design with Mediterranean roots reminiscent of craftsmanship and putting sustainability as a priority.
Our new GBMODULAR furniture line, designed by José A. Gandía-Blasco Canales for GANDIABLASCO, was the winner in the furniture category. The REVERSIBLE series of rugs and poufs, designed by Charlotte Lancelot for GAN, has been awarded in the Decor category. While the charismatic pouf with legs PATOSO, designed by Alejandra Gandía-Blasco for Diabla, has been awarded best outdoor design.
The recognition for GBMODULAR highlights the firm’s values and its evolution in the field of industrial design over the last decades, as this new line of patented furniture reinterprets and updates the construction system that the creative director of GANDIABLASCO and president of the company devised to give shape to his first outdoor furniture collections. An exercise in synthesis that, with a patented construction system, allows infinite possibilities with the same extruded aluminium profile and reduces excess material.
The GAN brand was also recognized at the ADA 2022 gala. The REVERSIBLE collection designed by Charlotte Lancelot won the top award in the Decor category, specifically the new REVERSIBLE Pink rug. The award recognizes Lancelot’s creative eye, and the GAN team’s capacity for innovation. The pieces that make up the REVERSIBLE spaces change appearance and texture with a simple twist, adapting to the temperature of each season thanks to the new weaving technique developed expressly for this collection. REVERSIBLE has also been recognized this December as a Honoree in the Residential rugs + carpets category of the Best of Year Design Awards, given by Interior Design magazine.
Celebrating the excellence of international design, the Archiproducts Design Awards also awarded PATOSO as the best design for Outdoor. The charismatic pouf filled with recyclable polystyrene beads, which thanks to its legs turns into a small lounge chair, is Alejandra Gandía-Blasco’s tribute to the master Achille Castiglioni.
This is not the only recognition for PATOSO, with which we have won the DNA Paris Design Awards 2022 in the Product Design category and have been awarded as honoree at the German Design Awards 2022 in the Gardening and Outdoor Living category. On the other side of the Atlantic, the fruitful harvest continued for the ingenious pouf, which also won the award in Outdoor seating category of the NYCxDESIGN AWARDS 2022.
Teresa Sapey+Partners’ COSTURAS collection, another of Diabla‘s 2022 novelties, was recognized at the same gala as a finalist in the Residential Seating category. The original and fun poufs designed for outdoors and inspired by the stitch lines of baseballs involve the reinvention of essential, often hidden elements, which are given full prominence. The first collaboration between Teresa Sapey and Diabla Outdoor brings a fun touch to terraces and gardens.
GAN was also present at this year’s NYCxDESIGN AWARDS gala, with Álvaro Catalán de Ocón and Kengo Kuma.
The new collection of manifesto rugs made from recycled PET and designed by Álvaro Catalán de Ocón, PLASTIC RIVERS, , won in the category dedicated to design with a positive impact on the environment. PLASTIC RIVERS is the result of the concern of the designer and GAN to raise awareness and combat, through craftsmanship, one of the great global problems of the industrial era: plastic waste. With the four rugs that make up the collection, they manage to give a new meaning to this waste, highlighting the paradoxical beauty of its origins through their faithful representation of the four most polluting rivers in the world. A way of drawing attention to GAN’s commitment to the environment and the revaluation of craftsmanship.
These values are also present in the GOZ collection designed by Kengo Kuma, Finalist in the Residential Flooring category of the same awards.
The Japanese master shows with the three rugs that make up the GOZ collection his vision of craftsmanship, extolling the genuine beauty of handmade and organic materials such as wood and wool in their natural state.
Another creator born in Japan, Kensaku Oshiro, is the author of one of this year’s award-winning GAN creations, GRAPY Outdoor, which has received the German Design Awards 2022 in the Outdoor Living category.
The last recognition, perhaps for this reason very special, comes to us “from home”. The ROOTS collection, created by Inma Bermúdez for GAN, has won the Association of Designers of the Valencian Community (ADCV) 2022 GOLD award in the Furniture/Auxiliary category. The rugs that reflect the Mediterranean origins of both the designer and the brand, hand-woven with jute and cotton warp, invite to a sensory journey and show “another way of creating, returning to tradition and where imperfection is the protagonist”.
ROOTS has also been recognized with the award in the Positive Impact category of the awards, given by the ADCV, for making an outstanding contribution to the improvement of society and the environment.
In conclusion, an excellent year to face 2023 with renewed enthusiasm.
