Our Installation for Natural Theatre: The Fourth Edition of Milan’s BAM Open Air Design

From October 2nd to 5th, 2024, the Biblioteca degli Alberi (BAM) in Milan hosted one of the most distinctive events focused on outdoor design: BAM Open Air Design. This open-air exhibition, merging innovation, sustainability, and art, aims to showcase how design can enhance urban living while promoting ecological and social awareness.

Organised by Coima Image in collaboration with the Fondazione Riccardo Catella and curated by Mosca Partners, the fourth edition of this open-air Milanese event fostered a dialogue between architecture, design, and nature under the theme “Natural Theatre.” The participants’ installations, arranged in a striking red circular layout on the meadows, were designed to explore sustainability and the circular economy, all while establishing a harmonious link between urban spaces and nature.

At Gandía Blasco Group, our outdoor lifestyle and sensitivity to natural spaces are deeply influenced by our Mediterranean roots, which is why we place great importance on exploring designs, spaces, and environments that connect with and respect nature.

Biophilia, Sustainability, and Contemporary Craftsmanship

Our installation at BAM Open Air Design reflected a thoughtful blend of biophilia, sustainability, and craftsmanship. It featured a selection of our designs that offer an alternative to mass industrial production, emphasising contemporary craftsmanship to create healthy, nature-friendly environments.

The Mangas Outdoor collection by GAN, designed by Patricia Urquiola and made from recycled PET fibres, stood alongside handcrafted GANDIABLASCO furniture, including Aram tables by Nendo, and the R24 collection by Paula Valentini. These designs, produced by skilled artisans in India using recycled and recyclable materials, highlight the intersection of sustainability and craftsmanship while promoting values like environmental care and well-being.

The natural tones of the GAN textiles and GANDIABLASCO furniture harmonised beautifully with the greenery of Biblioteca degli Alberi Milano, framed by Stefano Boeri’s biophilic Bosco Verticale.

In this exceptional setting, we also showcased key works from the first edition of our International 3D Awards, a global competition launched in partnership with BoModels. Focused on biophilia, the awards connect CGI creatives with the world of furniture design, encouraging sustainable innovation in the field.

We extend our gratitude to BAM Open Air Design for inviting us to contribute to such an inspiring event that rethinks how design can improve outdoor spaces.
