EME

The balance between traditional memory and industrial synthesis

“Forming a coherent, structured, and simple whole entails a high degree of complexity. The design process itself consists of synthesizing: from ideas to the final form. Overcoming the temptation to add results in objects where simplicity, elegance, or lightness prevail.”
Mario Martínez

EME is Mario Martínez’s first collection for GANDIABLASCO. It is born from a reflection on the archetype and the evolution of everyday objects, positioned as a contemporary version of the traditional chair. Its design joins the warmth of classic interior forms with the robustness and cleanliness of modern industrial design for the outdoors. This project materializes an exercise in synthesis where every component has a reason for being, fleeing from ornament to embrace an honest and timeless elegance rooted in Mediterranean simplicity.

Created under the innovative flat-pack concept to optimize transport costs and reduce the carbon footprint, the collection stands out for its lightweight and highly resistant character. The powder-coated aluminum frame seamlessly pairs with a hand-woven polyester rope seat, introducing a unique versatility that beautifully blurs the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces.

About Mario Martínez

He is a Spanish industrial designer based in Copenhagen who works with a focus on furniture, lighting, and art direction. He founded his studio in 2018, driven by the relationship between objects, people, and environments, with the ambition of creating simple and responsible designs that are coherent and transmit a sense of harmony. This sensitivity, along with his appreciation for craftsmanship and everyday objects, is reflected in the proportions, the use of materials, and the attention to detail in his work.

He studied in Barcelona, worked in New York, and moved to Copenhagen to collaborate with Hee Welling and Gudmundur Ludvik before starting his own studio. After exhibiting at Salone Satellite in 2019 and 2022, he was awarded the AD Satellite Rising Stars prize and began collaborating with companies such as Karl Andersson & Söner, MUJI, Space10, or Gandia Blasco. His work has been exhibited and recognized internationally, standing out in places such as the Milan Triennale, the Salone del Mobile, Stockholm Design Week, as well as in media such as Dezeen, Frame, or Design Milk.
