The world of design in Valencia is to be congratulated. The multi-disciplinary studio Fran Silvestre Architects and the design company GANDIABLASCO have joined forces to create BLAU: a collection of outdoor furniture that has been warmly received by the general public and critics both nationally and internationally.
There is strength in unity. The first prestigious design awards did not take long to happen. The first of which was awarded last March within the context of the XIII Biennial of Spanish Design and Urbanism celebrated in Madrid, where it was chosen for the first prize under the Research category and which was officially presented on July 19th last at the Carlos V Palace at the Alhambra in Granada.
The importance of this competition lies in its patronage, the Ministry of Public Works in collaboration with the High Council of Spanish Architects (CSCAE), the Caja de Arquitectos Foundation and the Union of Urban Planning Architects Associations, so that it could be considered the most prestigious of all the awards on the national panorama. On this occasion the edition was focused on awarding initiatives that promoted renovation in a creative way, having selected a shortlist of 42 projects under the research category.
Just two months later New York’s ICFF Exhibition took place, the most important showcase of contemporary design in the United States, which was attended by over 750 exhibitors within a precinct consisting of over 15,000 square meters. The NYC X Design Awards were presented within the context of the exhibition to studios and companies from more than 30 countries who submitted projects within 11 different categories; New design, furniture, seating, rugs and flooring, lighting, outdoor furniture, wall coverings, accessories, textiles, kitchen and bathroom as well as furniture for schools. GANDIABLASCO won an award for BLAU, the collection designed by Fran Silvestre Architects in the category of outdoor furniture design.
On this occasion the jury was made up of some of the most important editors in the world of design, from periodicals such as Milk, Interior Design, Surface, Azure, Dwell and Metropolis, amongst others, the prizes were awarded at MoMA on May 14th last.
